In my previous post, Staying in the Present Moment, I talked about my work toward staying in the present moment. Now here are some ways that I practice staying in the moment:
Meditation is probably my #1 method. You would be surprised at what 5-10 minutes of deep breathing can do for you. Guided meditations also help a lot since you have a gentle voice reminding you to focus on the current moment.
Writing because it gives me times to think, reflect, and refresh
Taking periods of rest and hiatuses help me to disconnect from distractions. They also help me to reconnect with my surroundings and current mindset and emotions. You can read more about a period of rest and disconnect that I took here: A Period of Disconnect and Rest.
Taking walks around places with appealing scenery for me it’s by a natural body of water. You can read about my love for natural bodies of water: My Love for Natural Bodies of Water. I also like windy environments, something about the wind hitting my face makes me feel alive. Looking out of windows also gives me to same effects.
While I am out and/or in conversation, I try not to be on my phone for too long. I limit my use for only important stuff like letting my mom know where I am or attending to some type of emergency. Some people are against taking photos and videos, but I like to take a photo/video or two for memories (especially if I have a good hair day). They help me to remember later. Talking with people about what is going on or the current event helps too. I have noticed it is a good way to feeding off of each other energy and increase feelings of excitement.
Focusing on the specific activity I am doing, and/or my surroundings is helpful. Sometimes it is easy to be on autopilot for certain activities such as commuting home using the same route you use every day. So, I try to become aware of when I am on autopilot then turn it off. I have also tried to decrease multitasking so that I can focus on one thing at a time.

All great tips. I agree with meditation, I did a mindfulness course a few years ago which was brilliant. It taught me skills that I use everyday to help me stay centred and focused on the here and now.

Oh that sounds great and so useful! I took a similar course two years ago that first opened my mind to the idea of mindfulness. Thank you for reading ! 🤗

For me i meditate daily and take walks with no cell phone. Taking walks without my cellphone have allowed me to appreciate the little things in nature and made me aware of things in my neighborhood.

Great tips! Luckily we’re close by the sea, so having that chance to walk along a pebbly beach with the salt spray in your hair and waves crashing on the shore can really help me focus. Keep writing! 🙂

Please may I have your permission to link back to your website in my next blogging post? It’s about how certain bloggers have inspired me to become a much better blogger/writer, and hopefully bring more like-minded and creative people together. How does that sound?

I have to work not to be in the present moment. I am not inclined to dwell on either the past or the future. Lucky me, huh?
