Somethings that I Learned about Related to Personal Journeys

Something I wish someone told me about the journey of healing, before I embarked on mine, was that taking on any type of personal journey can be a long and rough process that cause you to go through a series of emotions. They do not always goes as planned since they are usually full of surprises. It may be challenging at times to find a sense of direction or to even know if you are going in the right direction. You could start off in one direction then find yourself in a completely different direction. Especially in the beginning when you literally have no idea what you are really embarking on. There is no blueprint or manual, there are some general guidelines or key features to keep in mind. But your journey is your personal journey, there is no right or wrong way to go about it. There will be times you slip up and feel like all of your progress has gone out of the window. There will be times when you are just there, watching everything unfold while trying to figure out what is going on. And there will be times when you don’t really know what you are doing but it seems to be working in your favor. Don’t question it, just keep going with it. There are always more lessons to be learned because healing is an on-going process. You are never done with healing because life keeps happening. You have to actively keep working on it, even if it is in the sense of maintenance.

Knowing this information beforehand would have been good so that I would have been more realistic with my expectations and not put a lot of pressure on myself. It has been a couple of years and I am still unpacking, understanding, connecting, and learning. Before I rushed myself to get everything done within a year but now I am being patient with myself to take my time. I am not broken but I will never be “fixed.” I am striving to be better and make progress, even though it will not always look pretty.

Time to Focus on You:

What is something you wish someone would have told you before you started a journey?

  1. I would tell myself that part of the process involves messing up, sometimes repeatedly but there’s always a chance for redemption. I’d also tell myself to be more kind and patient on my journey. Thanks for sharing this post

  2. I wish someone had told me: “calm down, you’d get there in due time. Timing is everything”. If I had known this earlier, I would’ve been a bit patient with myself and not force things to happen because now I know that everything happens at its own time and great things take time.
Thank you for this post Nia 💕
